Have Allergies? Then Small Dogs With Hypoallergenic Fur Is Fur You!

Are you a dog lover? Do you live in an apartment or small home? Do you have allergies? A small dog with hypoallergenic fur might be the answer for you. “Hypo” is a Greek suffix meaning less or below. A hypoallergenic dog might still put out allergens, but at a much lower level. A few dogs that take up less space, making them better for apartment living, are the Silky Terrier, the Havanese, and the Coton de Tulear. These dogs are all considered of the “Toy” size by the America Kennel Club.

The Silky Terrier was developed through a cross of a Yorkshire Terrier and an Australian Terrier in the late 19th century. Even with these early dates, it was not fully recognized as a breed of its own until 1955 as the Australian Silky Terrier. These dogs have terrier qualities such as enjoying activity and a very sharp alertness. Their hair is long, but the Silky Terriers do not shed. This long hair also is partially where their name is derived from. It has very soft and smooth qualities. The dog does require more than average care for this silky coat to stay in good condition. The terriers can get along with other dogs and children, but will get aggressive when provoked or teased. Proper education should be given to as well as the people around the animal as well as the dogs themselves in how to act around one another.

The Havanese were originally developed by the Spanish from a now extinct breed called the Bichon Tenerife, making them part of the Bichon family of dogs. Grooming isn’t a worry with this breed, even with Havanese that are shown in competition. They are meant to look playful and friendly, much like their temperament. These dogs are great around children, other dogs, and people in general without becoming overly possessive. Their sturdy frame makes them that much better around curious children, unlike most fragile “Toy” sized dogs. Although they love playing and winning, they can be easily calmed when spoken to sternly by their owners. One of the major downsides to owning a Havanese is that they seem to suffer from many ailments such as cataracts and hip dysplasia. These are actually uncommon, unless the dog is adopted from a less than reputable breeder.

A Coton de Tulear is another dog with Spanish roots from the Bichon family. Its actual home is Madagascar, where it is the official dog of the country. This intelligent breed is extremely playful, and when pure bred, is white in color. This white coat, while hypoallergenic, does shed more than that of their Havanese cousin, so it requires brushing once every week or two. The Coton de Tulears love people and enjoy playing with them, going on daily walks, and can even keep up on longer hikes. They get easily attached to their owners and suffer from separation anxiety at times. Overall, these dogs are very healthy, living anywhere from fourteen to eighteen years.

People need accessories to accentuate the beauty of a certain thing. Many people use accessories in order to enhance the beauty of a paticular body part, or to make an experience more enjoyable.People who are into dogs know how important dog accessories can also be.In fact, many dog lovers even contend that buying dog accessories gives the same satisfaction as shopping for accessories does for women.

Today, many dog accessories are available on the internet and choosing the best dog accessories can be very wearisome at times. So, it’s important to know the factors that need to be taken into consideration before buying them.

Here are some tips on what to look for when buying dog accessories;

1.Dog Collars
There are many varieties of dog collars available, ranging from plain to fancy.Whatever type or design one may prefer, the most important thing to consider is that it should properly fit the dog.It should never be too loose or too tight.Experts say that the ideal space between the dog’s neck and the collar should be two fingers wide.

2.Dog Leashs
If the owner is fond of bringing his dog to the park or just for a walk around the corner, it is best to buy a quality leash. It should provide convenience both for the dog owner and the dog.

3.Food and Water Bowls
Dogs are like people too. That is why it is important to buy them quality food bowls and water bowls that will not be easily tripped or spill over.

4.Dog Toys
Most dogs are LOVE playing, so, it’s best to give them thier very own toys to gnash, chew, or bite with.Having his own things will make him more behaved instead of chewing the slippers or shoes or carpets!

5.Doghouses
When placed outside, dogs should have their own place for shelter. In order to keep them away from direct sunlight or from the rain.

6.Dog ID Tags
You'd want your dog returned to you, should they ever run away, of course you do! An ID Tag is a great place to start. Make sure they are not those cheapie aluminum ones though! Your pet deserves better. Indeed, choosing the best dog accessories are very important to your dog, so they should be important to you!

Dog Days Of Summer-Avoid Doggie Sunburn!!!

As we can get burned in the sun, so too are our dogs suseptible! Blonde/Creme colored and short haired dogs can be burnt by the sun very easily and be very painful. Assist your small dog against the burning rays of the sun by applying a UVA SUNSCREEN with a high SPF.....NO paba though! Paba has been proven to be dangerous to dogs. When applying sunscreen, add to unprotected areas such as thier little bald bellies, ears, nose and along the lip area. A doggie sunburn is something that you can protect your little nugget from, always keep some sunscreen on hand for summer outings!

Introducing Your New Puppy To Your Dog

Buying a new puppy is one of the most important decisions you and your family can make, especially if you already own a dog. It may be a good idea to ask the previous owners or the pet store where you make your purchase how your puppy interacted with other animals around him. If he was an "only child" you may want to take extra precaution and care when introducing him to your dog.

So, the day has come to introduce your new puppy to your existing dog and the question rises, what if they don’t get along? Given time and a few challenges between the two, the outcome will more than likely be favorable. However, you can give both dogs a head start and make them feel more comfortable by making introductions in an unfamiliar place.

Start by introducing your new puppy to your dog in a place other than your home, such as a park that you have never taken your dog to or a neighbor’s home in order to keep territorial issues out of the way and to keep your dog from feeling threatened. Dogs have a protecting nature and quickly decide that their home is their territory. Feeling threatened can happen when another animal crosses their territory. To keep this from happening, let your dog meet his new companion at least twice before bringing him into the home.

Never expect dogs to hit it off right away when introducing your new pup to your dog. Just like people, it may take a little while for your dog to become friendly and trusting of the new puppy. On the other hand, if you have a well-natured dog, you may find him almost parenting the new puppy and trying to "show him the ropes". Older dogs are usually more tolerant to the clumsiness and curiosity of new puppies.

Always pay close attention when first introducing your new puppy to your dog. If it seems as though the two are not getting along, or there is growling back and forth, step in the middle and give out treats. Keep a calm voice to remind your dog that the puppy is not a threat. Continue to intercept between the two until they begin to show a comfort zone. This won’t take long, as between the two they will decide who is the leader (their pecking order) and soon will become friends. If for some reason extensive growling and/or fighting persists between the two, give up and try again at a later time. If aggression appears to be a problem, it is probably best to not continue.

Dogs, just like children need a lot of tender, loving care. When introducing your new puppy to your dog, remember that you are lucky to have both of these additions to your family and while they give you so much freely, and offer unforgettable memories, they never ask for anything in return, except maybe a bone to chew on once in a while.

Clothes and Your Small Dog......

Let's face it, dressing up a small dog can be more about the owner than the dog, it shows off the design choices and fashion sense of the owner, but soon, the first time small dog owner comes to realize the benefits of clothing their extra small dog....smaller breeds of dog are very susceptible to cold weather. The tiny dog will often shiver perpetually because they just do not have the body mass to hold in the heat. So along with adorning the small dog with fashionable sweaters, coats, shirts and hats, there is a functionality added...keeping the small pup warm and instilling a feeling of security.

My personal view is that as long as you keep the dog clothes from being confining or awkward for your little precious to wear, most small dogs love getting dressed up now and again. A trip to the vet, or to visit family members on cold days will be much more enjoyable for your little nugget if they are dressed in a warm doggie outfit, and if you own a small/toy dog you very well know that these little darlings actually crave the attention their fashions bring them and honestly quite enjoy the whole process!

With the arrival of online shopping, the idea of clothing small dogs was taken to a level that all could enjoy and try out. Remember if your new to dressing your small dog, buy something cheap and try it out on her, if she really does NOT like the feel of the clothing, then do NOT force her to wear clothes...but more often than not the little pup will love being dressed!

Onto purchasing small dog fashions....some websites are ridiculously expensive and I would steer clear of these, odds are they are purchasing their items from the same manufacturers as affordable shops are. Don't be taken in! You can find very reasonably priced small dog clothes online, so do your research first and find an online shop that offers affordable dog clothing. The current movement in overdoing the dress of a small pet has certainly been awoken by celebs toting around their pets as arm candy, and as I've said earlier this a common reason for people adorning their pups but this should NOT be the only reason! First and foremost it should be the comfort and feeling of security that clothing gives a small pet!
